TAC Executive Director Kevin Martone to Deliver Keynote on Housing & Healthcare in a Managed Care Environment

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

TAC's Executive Director, Kevin Martone, has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the 2013 New Jersey Association of Mental Health & Addictions Agencies (NJAMHAA) Annual Conference taking place April 24-25, 2013, in Edison, NJ. In his remarks, Mr. Martone will address the importance of coordinated housing and healthcare for people with behavioral health conditions, and how states may use managed care strategies to achieve positive outcomes. Trends in housing, healthcare integration, and resource management will be discussed along with clinical and economic outcomes, and the implications for states and behavioral health service providers.

In the past, Mr. Martone served as Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Human Services, overseeing the state authority for mental health and substance abuse. There, he led a statewide systemic transformation of the public behavioral health system that advanced recovery, expanded peer-delivered services, improved access to community-based programs, and decreased reliance on acute care. He also negotiated the State's Olmstead Settlement Agreement, resulting in a plan to create over 1,000 new units of supportive housing for people leaving psychiatric hospitals or who were homeless. In addition, he served as President and CEO of a statewide supportive housing provider in New Jersey that used federal, state and local housing development and rental assistance programs to design, implement, and operate supportive housing for people receiving services from the public behavioral health system. Mr. Martone is also a past President of the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD).
