On August 22, 2013, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released a draft of the National Behavioral Health Quality Framework (NBHQF) for public comment. The NBHQF proposes a set of core measures that can be used to inform funding and quality improvement decisions, monitor the Nation's behavioral health, and examine and prioritize prevention, treatment, and recovery measures. Feedback on the National Behavioral Health Quality Framework is due on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
The NBHQF is modeled after the National Strategy for Quality Improvement (NQS), which the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was required to develop under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Both the NQS and the NBHQF were developed to support the broad aims of better care, healthy people/communities, and affordable care. The NBHQF, however, goes a step further by sharing best practices and ensuring that care is accessible despite health disparities and other access impediments.
