NDNRC Releases Technical Assistance Guide for Marketplace Navigators

Friday, January 17, 2014

The National Disability Navigator Resource Collaborative (NDNRC) is a project developed by the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) which works to promote cross-disability competence among Healthcare Insurance Marketplace Navigators. NDNRC recently released a technical assistance tool aimed at assisting Marketplace Navigators in guiding people with disabilities through the process of obtaining health insurance. The tool, entitled Guide to Disability for Healthcare Insurance Marketplace Navigators is designed to strengthen disability literacy among Marketplace Navigators; assist Navigators in identifying needed supports and accommodations for people with disabilities; and inform Navigators of issues central to healthcare insurance eligibility for people with disabilities.

This supplemental tool is designed to be used along with other resources provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It includes fact sheets on topics including Medicaid eligibility for people with disabilities; determination of medically frail status for Medicaid; information on rehabilitation, habilitation, medical equipment, and pharmacy benefits; mental health and substance abuse parity; comparing health plans' benefits and coverage summaries; and using health plan customer services.
