On May 8th, the National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans released a research brief describing keys outcomes achieved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program in Fiscal Year 2013. SSVF provides supportive services and temporary financial assistance for Veterans and their families who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless, with the ultimate goal of helping participants to obtain or retain permanent housing. First implemented in FY2012 and expanded in FY2013, SSVF's focus on rapid intervention has had a significant impact nationwide and is has proven to be a critical tool toward the federal goal of ending homelessness among Veterans by 2015. According to the brief, in just its first two years of operation SSVF provided services to  nearly 60,000 Veterans and their families who were at risk or experiencing homelessness. Of the total number of individuals serviced, including Veterans and their family members, 84% exited the program to permanent housing as result of SSVF assistance. 

TAC is the prime contractor for VA's SSVF Technical Assistance and Support. Along with its partner, Abt Associates, TAC provides TA and support nationally using a three pronged approach: the TA team develops and delivers TA and training activities and materials, develops and implements support to advance SSVF best practices and standards, and provides policy guidance and implementation support to the VA SSVF Program Office. As of FY14, there are 319 SSVF grantees nationwide that are affected by the SSVF TA model.
