Marti Knisley to Facilitate Disability Law Symposium Workshop on Court Order Implementation

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Marti Knisley, Director of TAC's National Community Support Initiative, has been invited on behalf of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) to facilitate a workshop at the 2013 Jacobus tenBroek Disability Law Symposium. The Symposium provides disability rights advocates a forum in which to examine the progress made and the challenges that remain for disability rights advocates in the struggle to achieve Dr. tenBroek's vision of equality of opportunity for all citizens to participate in society. The symposium will be held at the NFB Jernigan Institute in Baltimore, MD April 18-19, 2013.

Ms. Knisley's session will take place on Thursday, April 18, and will be focused on the implementation of Court Orders, drawing on her experience serving as an appointed Court Monitor in an Olmstead class action suit ordering the development of 6,000 supportive housing slots for people with mental illness in New York City, and as an Expert Consultant for the State of New Jersey in their Olmstead suit requiring 800 people to be discharged from state psychiatric hospitals into community settings, with an emphasis on supportive housing and changes to the state's Medicaid program.
