HUD, HHS Share Data to Explore Housing & Health Relationship
On June 12, 2014, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a report, Picture of Housing and Health: Medicare and Medicaid Use Among Older Adults in HUD-Assisted Housing. The study was conducted by the Lewin Group for HHS's Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE). The report is based on a task force project exploring the feasibility of matching HUD administrative data to the HHS Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administrative data in order to determine the extent to which this resource could track health and housing outcomes, and whether this approach could reliably support future research and policy analysis.
