On April 30, 2013, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the new, streamlined applications for health insurance. The new applications have been simplified and reduced in length: Applications for Individuals are now 3 pages, and Applications for Families are reduced to 7 pages. This single application will allow consumers to apply for insurance through the new Exchanges, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or tax credits that will help pay for premiums.

Beginning October 1, 2013 consumers can submit their health insurance applications online, in person or over the phone.
