CMS Announces Funding Opportunity – Connecting Kids to Coverage

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a Request for Proposal to fund a third cycle of  Connecting Kids to Coverage Outreach and Enrollment grants. This project seeks to expand enrollment in Medicaid and CHIP programs for eligible children through innovative outreach and engagement strategies.  There are five general areas that applicants can focus on in their proposal, which include:

1) Outreach through schools,

2) Addressing disparities for coverage among subpopulations,

3) Targeting children already connected to other mainstream resources (e.g., SNAP, WIC, TANF),

4) Community-based application assistance for Medicaid & CHIP services, and

5) Training community-based providers to educate eligible families about benefits and application process.

A total of $32 million is available nationally, with $250,000 to $1 million available to individual grantees over two years.  Applications are due to CMS by February 21, 2013.  More information about the Connecting Kids to Coverage project and full instructions on completing the Request for Proposal is available at Grants.gov.
