AAPD Releases 2013 Compendium on Disability Statistics

Friday, December 20, 2013

The Annual Disability Statistics Compendium was released by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) on December 11, 2013. This web-based tool makes finding and using statistics on people with disabilities easier for legislative and advocacy groups by compiling statistics from various federal agencies into one place.

The Compendium covers 16 topic areas including: prevalence of disability; employment; poverty; earned income; education; health care coverage; health behaviors; and Supplemental Security Income and Supplemental Security Disability Income. Key findings from the 2013 Compendium include: labor force continues to decrease nominally; 13.4% of people with disabilities are unemployed, compared to 7.9% of people without disabilities; 28.4% of people with disabilities who have a Bachelor's degree are employed, while 76.1% of people without disabilities who have a Bachelor's degree are employed.
