The United States Department of Health and Human Services announced $99 million in funding to train new mental health providers, teachers and other community members to recognize mental health issues in young people - and connect them with more readily accessible mental health services. This funding is part of President Obama and Vice President Biden's Now Is the Time plan to reduce gun violence in schools and communities. This new federal investment in behavioral health workforce development and access to care, along with the coverage improvements made possible through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, will help youth with mental health challenges access the treatment and services they need to be successful at school, home and in the community.
