On September 30, 2014, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced the award of $207 million in Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) grants that will help an additional 70,000 homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families. The grants will be distributed to 82 non-profit agencies and include "surge" funding for 56 high need communities. Under the SSVF program, the VA awards grants to private nonprofit organizations and consumer cooperatives to provide a range of services that promote housing stability among very low-income Veteran families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.

The surge funding will enable the VA to strategically target resources to high need communities in an effort to meet the federal goal of ending homelessness among veterans by 2015. This new round of awards adds to the $300 million in awards that were made on August 11, 2014.  Together, the funds provided through these two awards will allow VA and its community partners to assist approximately 195,000 homeless and at-risk veterans and their families to obtain or retain permanent housing.

TAC is the primary Technical Assistance (TA) provider for the SSVF program. TAC, along with our partner Abt. Associates, provides TA, resource development, community coordination and direct training in an effort to continue to improve the SSVF program's implementation practices and outcomes nationwide.
